Fillers and its limits
What are dermal fillers? Dermal fillers are injectable substances (often hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, or PMMA) used to: ✅ Fill wrinkles and folds ✅ Add volume to cheeks, lips, jawline ✅ Improve facial contours or scars They do not affect deeper tissue structures like muscles or bones. Limits of Fillers Before Irreversible Change 1️⃣ Temporary Nature (if biodegradable) Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers dissolve naturally over months (6–18 months), often with no lasting tissue change. They can be reversed with hyaluronidase injections if needed. 2️⃣ Tissue Stretching Repeated overfilling or chronic heavy use can stretch the skin or soft tissues. This may lead to: ⚠ Laxity or sagging once filler resorbs. ⚠ Need for surgical correction (e.g., facelift) if skin no longer recoils. 3️⃣ Granulomas or Nodules Rare immune reactions can cause permanent lumps or fibrosis. Requires steroid injections or surgical removal. 4️⃣ Vascular Complications Intravascular injection
